Feedspot is the fastest and easiest way to read news you care about and share with your friends. This social news reader feeds instant news for any topic from top sources. You can choose to get up to the minute news updates for your favorite celebrities, politicians, sports team, company or any other topic of your interest. Although there’s Google Reader that enables you to keep a track of your favorite topics on the internet, Feedspot does what it Reader doesn’t: it smoothly integrates your social networks into your reader. You can read news from your favorite sites in a clean and simple interface. With the “Made in India” tag, Feedspot has gone global massively.
“I took up entrepreneurship because I think I was not employable. Also, I always wanted to build a consumer internet product that has a global impact and not just India,” says Anuj Agarwal, Co-Founder, Feedspot, sharing thoughts on entrepreneurship.
This startup was founded in August 2012 by two geeky co-founders, Vineet Agarwal, who has a Masters in CS from University of San Francisco, and Anuj, Master in CS from University of Southern California. This social reader is managed by two teams, one in US and Mumbai each. The team in US comprises Scott Cook, who worked with Salesforce before, and looks after business development for Feedspot in the States, Scott Granados, who looks over the data centers and networking, and Dr. Larry Cornett, as the Product Advisor. Larry is a Silicon Valley executive who worked for 16 years in Yahoo (ex-VP), eBay, Apple and IBM.
“There are some notable News Readers in the market but there is no single winner yet. We have Quora for Q&A, Instagram for Photo sharing, Youtube for videos, Twitter for real-time communication, Facebook for friends and so on.. but nobody really has even a double digit market share in the News space. Feedspot aims to be the Number one global internet product in this domain,” adds Anuj.
Feedspot allows the user to organize and prioritize his/her reading list. This obviates the information overload (another improvement over Google Reader?). Most of the time you do not have time to read articles from every site you follow. Feedspot gives you easy to use tools so that you first read only the news that is most important to you. Moreover, discovering interesting new sites is simple, and your interesting reads can be seen by your friends as well.
Feedspot currently serves users from over 110 countries. The top 10 countries include United States, United Kingdom, India, Canada, France, Spain, Germany, Australia, Israel, and Singapore. Such a large userbase has inspired them to work more upon the product and increase the size of the userbase manifold.
